Chocolate flower toppers with strawberries are the easiest (most delicious) way to elevate any dessert. Use them to decorate cakes, cupcakes, or as part of a party platter to add an elegant touch.
These chocolate strawberry flower toppers were inspired by decorations I often see on cakes from professional bakers. They look complicated, but they’re surprisingly simple to prepare and always look beautiful once set!
Small but impressive, these edible strawberry decorations will become a go-to in your dessert repertoire. They are perfect for everything from birthday parties to holiday brunches, and make a showstopping treat for Valentine’s Day alongside strawberry chocolate hearts and flower chocolate lollipops.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!
• Strawberries – Look for bright, fragrant strawberries that are medium to large in size. They should be fairly firm berries with green tops.
• Chocolate - I use a combination of white and dark chocolate for a layered flower look. I like white chocolate petals and a dark chocolate rim, but you can also do the reverse. Look for high-quality chocolate, and opt for dairy-free options if needed.
How to Make Strawberry Chocolate Flower Toppers
1. Pipe the flowers. Melt the white chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler over medium heat. Then, transfer it to a piping utensil or bag, and pipe a circle onto parchment paper. Draw a flower around the circle, and fill in the flowers. Place the flower aside, allowing the chocolate to harden and set.
2. Outline. Repeat the process, melting the dark chocolate. Then, use the melted chocolate to trace the perimeter of the white chocolate flower, and let the chocolate set.
3. Serve. Top the strawberries with the flowers, and enjoy!
Possible Variations
• Color the chocolate – Tint the white chocolate with pink pitaya powder or freeze-dried strawberry powder for a pink-colored flower.
• Chocolate - Use all white chocolate, all dark chocolate, or opt for milk chocolate for a slightly different taste.
• Filling options – Hollow out the strawberries, and add a bit of ganache, jam, whipped cream, melted chocolate, or Nutella for a unique center.
• Garnish - Top the chocolate with crushed nuts, coconut flakes, sprinkles, crushed freeze-dried berries, or edible glitter for a special touch.
FAQs
Can I make strawberry flower toppers ahead of time?
Yes! The chocolate flowers can be made up to 3 days in advance. Store them flat in an airtight container at room temperature or the fridge if it's hot. Add them to the strawberries just before serving to prevent condensation or sliding.
Do I need tempered chocolate for this recipe?
No, tempering isn’t necessary as the flowers will be served quickly and don’t need to stay stable for long periods. Just make sure to let them set completely before serving!
