With just two ingredients and simple steps, they’re a foolproof snack or dessert that’s easy to customize for various occasions and cravings.

These chocolate-dipped apples are one of my favorite recipes for Valentine’s Day! I use green apples for a pop of color, and they’re a nice addition to more traditional options like strawberry roses and strawberry chocolate hearts

Recipe Tip

You can serve the apples with or without popsicle sticks.

That said, this recipe is also a great fall snack and a fun way to use up leftover Halloween candy, if you crush it up and sprinkle it on top. Rich, sweet, crisp, and refreshing, every bite is incredibly satisfying and makes for a fun way to sneak in a little extra nutrients while satisfying your sweet tooth.

How to Make Chocolate Apples

  1. Prepare the apples: Halve and core the apples. Insert the lolly sticks.
  2. Decorate the apples: Melt the chocolate and pour it into a piping tool or bag. Pipe the chocolate rose. Allow to set.

Possible Variations

  • Granny Smith: Swap for Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, etc.
  • Dark chocolate: Use white or milk chocolate. You can even use two types of chocolate: dip the apple half in white chocolate first, then pipe the dark chocolate rose onto it.
  • Toppings: Top with finely chopped pecans, pistachios, candy, edible gold dust, or sprinkles.
  • Presentation: Serve the apples with or without sticks.

Candy Apple

For an extra special treat, dip whole apples in caramel or syrup first. Then pipe the chocolate rose on one side when it has hardened.

How to Store Leftovers

Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1 day.

FAQs

What are the best apples to use for this recipe?

I recommend larger apples to give you more space to decorate. Apples like Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, or Pink Lady with one main color will make the rose pop more.

Can I make the apples in advance?

Yes! You can make them a few hours ahead. Be sure to store them in the fridge.

How do I prevent the apples from browning?

Brush the cut side with lemon or orange juice. You can slice off the outer layer of the apple if it has started to brown.

How do I prevent the chocolate from dripping when piping the rose?

It helps to use very cold apples, so the chocolate hardens quickly.

I’m having trouble piping the rose. Is there an alternative?

You can pipe a tulip or daisy instead, which can be easier to shape.
