These sweet fruit kabobs are a healthy dessert and snack idea that is great to serve at parties and other special occasions. Even better, they are so easy to prepare that you can get the kids to help.

And if you can’t get enough of all the tasty fruits, try making rainbow fruit skewers. Just stick all your favorite fresh fruit onto the remaining part of the skewers. Cubes of pineapple, strawberries, melon, grapes, and kiwi will be perfect for the job.

Chocolate Fruit Skewer Ingredients

• Watermelon: You can also use mango, honeydew, cantaloupe, or pineapple.

• Dark chocolate: Substitute milk chocolate or white chocolate, if preferred. Look for dairy-free varieties if needed.

• Mango: You can use any fruit you can cut into rounds.

How to Make Flower Shaped Chocolate Fruit Skewers

1. Slice the watermelon into two cm-thick pieces. Then, use flower-shaped cookie cutters to slice the pieces into shapes.

2. Place the watermelon flowers on a kitchen towel to dry off. This helps the chocolate stick!

3. Slice a thick piece of mango and trim off the outer skin. Use a round cookie cutter to slice small rounds.

4. Cut out the center of the watermelon flowers using the same round cutter.

5. Place a mango slice in the center of each piece of watermelon.

6. Melt the dark chocolate. Transfer the melted chocolate to a piping utensil or piping bag.

7. Trace the inside of the flower cutters onto parchment paper, using a pencil. Turn the paper over and pipe the melted chocolate, tracing the flower design. Or, create solid chocolate flowers, if preferred.

8. Place the watermelon flowers on top of the chocolate and gently press down. Set aside to harden and set. If you are short on time, drizzle the melted chocolate over instead!

9. Skewer the flowers, making sure to pierce the mango to hold it in place, and enjoy!

Possible Variations

• Shapes: Use any cookie-cutter shapes you have on hand. Or slice and skewer the fruit as-is.

• Fruit: Make rainbow fruit skewers, berry fruit skewers, or tropical skewers using any combination of fruits you have on hand.

 Toppings: Add an extra drizzle of chocolate, chopped nuts, sprinkles, or coconut flakes for extra flavor and crunch.

• Extras: Alternate the fruits with pieces of cake, brownies, or marshmallows for something a little special.

Can I make fruit skewers the night before?

This recipe is best served right away. However, if you want to prepare in advance or if you have leftovers, it will stay fresh in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1 day.

Do you have to soak skewers for fruit kabobs?

No, wooden skewers are soaked to prevent them from burning on a grill. Since we don’t do any actual cooking, there’s no need for this recipe.

How do you serve fruit to a crowd?

I often serve these skewers as a fun after-school treat. However, they also make for a tasty addition to cookouts and barbecues alongside melon ball skewers and patriotic caprese bites.

Equipment

  • medium flower-shaped cookie cutter
  • small round cookie cutter
  • parchment paper

Ingredients 

  • 4 slices watermelon
  • 100 grams dark chocolate
  • 1 slice mango

Instructions 

  • Slice the watermelon into 2 cm thick pieces (0.8 inches).
  • Use the flower cookie cutter to shape the watermelon (you can make two sizes like I've done, or stick to one size).
  • Place the watermelon flowers on a kitchen towel to dry off (this will help the chocolate stick better).
  • Slice a similar thick piece of mango and trim off the outer skin.
  • Make the round mango cutouts with the round cutter.
  • Now, cut out the center of the watermelon flowers with the round cutter.
  • Place the mango pieces into the middle of the melon flowers.
  • Melt the dark chocolate.
  • Place the chocolate in a piping utensil or bag.
  • Using a pencil, trace the inside of flower cutters onto parchment paper.
  • Turn the paper over.
  • Pipe melted chocolate over the outline of the flowers (you can also cover the entire base of the flowers if you prefer).
  • Place the watermelon flowers on top of the chocolate and press down so the chocolate spreads out.
  • Allow to set.
  • Stick a skewer into the flowers (this will keep the mango piece in place).
  • Serve.
