Serve this as a fun snack any day, or enjoy it on Earth Day, St Patrick’s Day, and themed birthday parties. It’s so easy to make, you can even get the kids to help.

A plate features snacks arranged to look like turtles, made from kiwi slices, green grapes, white chocolate, and candy eyes.

And I bet they will be thrilled if you add one to a lunchbox or serve it as a sweet afternoon treat. The best part is you can make them in advance, just store them in the fridge.

Ingredients for White Chocolate Fruit Turtles

Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!

  • White chocolate: I prefer to use a white chocolate bar.
  • Grapes: Choose small, firm, and oblong green grapes for the best results.
  • Kiwi: Remove the skin with a peeler.
  • Candy eyes: Either mini or regular candy eyes. They’re available at large supermarkets and bake shops.
A bowl of green grapes, a bowl of white chocolate, four whole kiwis, and a small dish with candy eyes on a gray surface.

Melting white chocolate

Be sure to melt the white chocolate low and slow so it doesn’t burn. I prefer to stick it straight in a saucepan on the lowest heat setting, stirring constantly. A Bain Marie or the microwave is an option, too.

How to Make Chocolate Kiwi Turtles

  1. Peel the kiwi and cut them into slices. Halve the grapes and melt the white chocolate. Pour the chocolate into a piping tool or bag.
  2. Pipe the melted white chocolate onto parchment paper. Top with a kiwi slice, and push down to spread out the chocolate.
  3. Place four grape halves for the legs, followed by a whole grape for the turtle’s head.
  4. Smear a tiny amount of white chocolate to stick on the candy eyes. Allow the turtles to set.

Possible Variations

  • Grapes: Choose any color grapes, blueberries, kiwi berries, red or black currants.
  • Kiwi: Swap for fig, strawberry, apple halves, nectarines, plums, or apricots.
  • White chocolate: Milk or dark chocolate.
  • Candy eyes: Or black sesame seeds.

How to Store Leftovers

Leftover turtles are best kept in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy them on the same day.

FAQs

Is the kiwi skin edible?

Yes, infact it’s very healthy, so feel free to leave it on, if you prefer.

Can I prepare the turtles ahead of time?

Sure, make them a few hours ahead and store them covered in the fridge. They are best enjoyed on the same day.

Are the turtles suitable for small kids?

Halved grapes can be a choking hazard, so these are better served to older kids.

Ingredients

  • 100 grams white chocolate
  • 18 green grapes, oblong and round
  • 3 kiwis
  • 12 candy eyes, mini

Instructions

  • Peel the kiwi and slice them (the slices need to be about the same thickness as the grapes you are using).
  • Halve the grapes.
  • Melt the white chocolate.
  • Add the chocolate to a piping utensil or bag.
  • Pipe a dollop of chocolate onto parchment paper, then pipe a hollow, circular shape underneath.
  • Dry the fruit off on a piece of kitchen towel.
  • Place the kiwi slice on top of the circular-shaped chocolate. You want the chocolate to extend out underneath the kiwi to keep the grapes in place.
  • Add a whole grape onto the dollop you made for the head (the grapes I used for this were rounder).
  • Arrange four halved grapes for legs symmetrically around the sides of the kiwi, with the cut side of the grapes facing inwards.
  • Use white chocolate as glue to stick candy eyes on top of the head.
  • Allow to set.
  • Serve.
