โค๏ธ Why Youโll Love this Halloween Dip
- Nutritious and festive with only simple ingredients.
- Suitable to prep ahead.
- Anyone can make it.
- Showstopping and fun!

Halloween Guacamole Ingredients
Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!ย

- Avocado: I prefer Hass avocado for their creamy texture. I always choose the ones with the darkest peel, that are firm with a slight give and soft(ish) tip.
- Red onion: Chop it finely. Swap for white onion for a more traditional guacamole.
- Lime: Adds a fresh and citrusy taste.
- Greek yogurt: Just a bit to make the guacamole creamier. You can omit.
- Sea salt and pepper: To balance the flavors.
- Cucumber: I love English or Persian cucumbers. Youโll need a few slices for the skull garnish and iris details.
- Capers: For the โpupilsโ.
- Garlic dip: Plain Greek yogurt, garlic (do adjust to your taste), and onion powder. Season well.
How to Make Halloween Guacamole

- Prepare the guacamole: Smash the avocados with a fork, add in chopped red onion, lime juice, Greek yogurt, and season well. Spoon the dip into a bowl.

- Now for the cucumber details: Slice the cucumber, and cut out two indents for the jaw to each side, trim the teeth, punch out the eyes and the nose with a metal straw. Shape the irises out of 3 thinly cut cucumber slices using a sharp knife.

- Make the garlic dip: Mix the ingredients for the garlic dip. Top the guacamole with dollops of the dip. Shape them into eyeballs with the back of a spoon.

- Final step: Top the garlic dip eyes with cucumber irises and capers, as well as the cucumber skulls. Serve with crostini.
Tips for Success
- If you find the red onion flavor overpowering, give it a cold water soak for 20 minutes.
- Do season the guacamole to your taste before plating.
- When you transfer the dip to the serving bowl, flatten it slightly with the back of a spoon, so itโs easier to decorate with the eyeballs.
- I love to serve the dip in a small bowl on top of a rimmed platter. A chopping board or regular plate is fine, too.
Timesaver
If you are short on time, skip the garlic dip eyeballs and top with candy eyes or olives.
Possible Variations
- Red onion: Swap for brown, white onion, or green onion.
- Lime: Or lemon juice.
- Greek yogurt: Omit or use sour cream.
- Garlic dip: Try cream cheese. Even bocconcini halves would make great eyeballs.
- Add-ins for the guacamole: Fresh minced garlic, roasted garlic, lime zest, chili, jalapeรฑo, or cilantro.
- Presentation: Double the portion and place the dip in the middle of a large platter. Add all the cruditรฉs to make one big spooky veggie board. Or divide the dip into individual portions, each topped with a skull and eyeball.
Best Served with
- Burritos, nachos, quesadillas, or tacos.
- Breadsticks.
- Parmesan garlic bread.
- Focaccia.
- Crackers.
- Tortilla chips (for a gluten-free option).
- Crostini.
- Cruditรฉs.
How to Store Leftovers
Spoon the leftover dip into an airtight container. Keep in the refrigerator and enjoy within 1 day.
FAQs
Yes. Cover the guacamole tightly with plastic wrap (make sure itโs airtight against the dip) and store it in the fridge. You can also prepare the skulls, garlic dip, and cucumber pupils. Assemble right before the guests arrive.
Actually you can, yes. Transfer it to an airtight container or freezer bag and enjoy it within 3 months. Leave to the thaw in the fridge overnight.
Spoon it into a mini container and send it off in a kids lunchbox with a few carrot and cucumber sticks, or add it to the bottom of your guacamole bowl so nothing is wasted.
Top it onto your salads, sandwiches, roll ups, and wraps. Be sure to add some pickled red onions, too.
Use a regular straw. The cucumber is soft so it should work, too.
