Everyone will love this easy-to-make Skull Cheese Ball served with pretzel crackers. It’s the ultimate Halloween snack that comes together quickly, and you only need three ingredients.

The cheese ball is easy to customize, and the best part is you can make it in advance. Bring it to your next Halloween party or enjoy it on a spooky night at home with all your favorite people.
Skull Cheese Ball Ingredients
- Cream cheese: I use Boursin. It’s a cream cheese with garlic and herbs, which has a firm texture and holds its shape well.
- Balsamic glaze: To fill the indents for the eyes. You can omit if you prefer.
- Crackers: I like round pretzel crackers.
Recipe Tip
Skip the skull and make a ghost cheese ball or eye ball instead.
How to Make a Skull Cheese Ball
- Place the cream cheese on top of cling film. Shape the skull.
- Cut out the eyes and nose with cookie cutters.
- Trim the teeth with a knife.
- Assemble the skull onto your serving platter. Surround with crackers and add the balsamic glaze details.

Possible Variations
- Cream cheese: You can use any cream cheese you like. If it’s too soft to shape, add a tablespoon or two of finely grated cheddar or Parmesan.
- Crackers: Crostini, crackers, pretzels, crudité, or potato chips.
- Balsamic glaze: Try chutney, chili sauce, or fill the indent with black sesame seeds, or nuts.
- Add-ins: Caramelized onion, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, fresh garlic, crispy bacon, nuts, jalapeños, chives, or sundried tomatoes.
- Personalisation: Feel free to customize the skull as you wish. You can make x’s for eyes, make two rows of teeth, add a bone cross, etc.
How to Store Leftovers
Keep them in an airtight container or cover the platter with plastic wrap. Store in the fridge and enjoy within two days.
FAQs
Yes, you can prepare it a few hours ahead and keep it covered in the fridge. When ready to serve, top with the balsamic glaze details and add the crackers.
Try sticking it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes, to see if that helps.
