Not your average garlic bread, this recipe starts with thick ciabatta slices. Then, I top each slice with garlic butter and four types of cheese, and broil them to crisp, golden brown perfection. Think of it as an elevated version of ciabatta garlic bread or focaccia garlic bread.

Perfect for beginners, this easy recipe tastes like it would be served at a restaurant and comes together in minutes. I love pairing it with burrata pasta or roasted tomato soup, but it’s so good you may find yourself enjoying it on its own as a snack!

Recipe Tip

Enjoy it with my chicken soup and salads all year-round.

Parmesan Garlic Bread Ingredients

Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!

  • Baguette: I use French baguette or ciabatta slices for this recipe.
  • Cream cheese: For that creamy, cheesy taste.
  • Garlic: Mince or slice finely.
  • Butter: Mix salted butter with the garlic to make the spreadable garlic butter.
  • Cheddar: You’ll need both red and white cheddar.
  • Parmesan: I prefer to grate my own Parmesan rather than buy it pre-grated.
  • Zaatar: Adds a slightly lemony, nutty flavor. Sprinkle to taste.

How to Make Parmesan Garlic Bread

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Slice the baguette and mix the room temperature butter with minced garlic.
  2. Top the baguette slices with the garlic butter and cream cheese.
  3. Grate the two cheddars and the Parmesan cheese, then layer on top.
  4. Broil the bread for a few minutes, until golden. Sprinkle with zaatar.

Possible Variations

  • Baguette: Swap for sourdough, slider buns, sandwich bread, brioche, or any loaf of bread you prefer.
  • Cheeses: Add-in or swap any cheeses. Try Brie, mozzarella, fontina, gruyere, Gouda, ricotta, Havarti, etc.
  • Cream cheese: Swap for a garlic-and-herb cream cheese.
  • Add-ins: Top the finished garlic bread with fresh tomato, basil, tuna, jalapenos, diced crispy bacon, fresh herbs, grated truffles, breadcrumbs, or pesto.

Best Served with

  • Soups, salads, pasta dishes, hot dinners, pot roast, quiche, etc.

How to Store Leftovers

Keep them in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy them within 2-3 days.

FAQs

Can I reheat the garlic bread?

Yes. I usually reheat them at 100°C (212°F) until heated through.

Can I make the bread in advance?

Absolutely! Arrange them and pile on the cheese, but wait to broil them until shortly before serving (keep them refrigerated).

Will I taste the cream cheese?

Not particularly, it just makes the garlic bread extra creamy and melty.

Don’t I need to season the bread?

I find the cheeses salty enough that they don’t need seasoning, but do season if you feel it’s needed.
