Crispy Potato Waffles are an impressive side dish for any meal, and a great alternative to regular cooked potatoes.

To make them, boil your potatoes until tender, then transfer them to a buttered waffle iron and cook until crispy and golden. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and pepper and enjoy as a side dish or as a full meal topped with anything you fancy!
I like mine with guacamole, sour cream, chopped tomatoes, pickled red onion, and shredded chicken. It’s the perfect healthy meal. You can also sprinkle them with shredded cheddar or gruyere while they’re hot for the ultimate comfort food.
Recipe Tip
Savory waffles make a fantastic canapé for your next dinner party. Use small potatoes and top them with sour cream, smoked salmon, a squeeze of lemon, and fresh dill.

- Seasoning: Sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper after removing potatoes from the waffle iron.
How to Make Savory Potato Waffles
- Cook the potatoes in a small pot until tender.
- Brush the waffle iron with butter (top and bottom).
- Place the potatoes in the waffle iron and cook until golden (about 8-10 minutes).
- Season well and serve.
Possible Variations
- Butter: Try a neutral-tasting coconut oil, ghee, or extra virgin olive oil.
- Potatoes: Sweet potatoes would be delicious, too.
- Toppings: Sprinkle the potatoes with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Parmesan cheese, chili powder, dried thyme, or oregano for extra flavor. It’s best to add while the potatoes are still in the waffle iron and once they start crisping up (be careful not to burn yourself).

Keep your potato waffles in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy within 3 days.
FAQs
Yes, you can use the waffle iron until heated through (arrange so the indents line up if you can).
Yes. You can reheat low and slow at 100°C (212°F) or set the oven to grill for a few minutes (keep an eye on them so they don’t burn).
Sure! I like to make them the day before and then reheat using the waffle iron or oven just before serving.
Sadly, no. In that case, I’d make my cheesy smashed potatoes with cooked potatoes instead.

This was easy and delicious. I did microwave and peel the cooled the potatoes instead of boiling them. Will definitely make again.
Thank you so much, Connie. Brilliant idea to microwave the potatoes! So thrilled you like them!
