How to Pick the Right Watermelon

These are some of the things to look out for:
- Field spot: A yellow or orange spot means the melon has been resting undisturbed on the ground and likely to be delicious and ripe.
- Weight: You want a heavy melon for its size.
- Color: Ideally it’s dull, matte, and has webbing patches.
- Sound: This is the one I use the most. It needs to sound hollow when you tap it.
- Shape: Round and uniform.
How to Make a Watermelon Platter

- Slice the end off the watermelon.

- Cut from the center to the outer edge at a 45° angle towards the left.

- Cut from the center to the outer edge at a 45° angle towards the right making a v-shape.

- Remove the shard of watermelon and continue all the way around.

- When the whole top is cut in a zig-zap pattern, slice off that piece.

- Quarter the watermelon slice and arrange on a platter. Repeat.
Possible Variations
- Extras: Swap lime juice for a squeeze of lemon juice, sprinkle with sea salt, melted chocolate, tajin, chili powder, or fresh mint.
- Presentation: Skewer the slices with ice lolly sticks to enjoy watermelon sticks mess-free.
How to Store Leftovers
Use an airtight container and store in the fridge. Enjoy within 2 days.
