All you need is a small, sharp knife, strawberries (obviously!), and a little bit of patience! Serve the roses as they are, dip them in chocolate, top them onto cakes, or place them in a glass with some bubbly or your favorite cocktail. However you decide to serve them, they are sure to be a hit!

Recipe Tip

You may find it easiest to skewer the roses and then carve them. It’s a personal preference.

What You Need to Make Strawberry Roses

  • Strawberries: You’ll need bright red, fridge-cold, and firm berries that are teardrop-shaped.
  • Small pairing knife: It’s essential you use a small knife with a short blade, so you don’t cut into the other petals. This will give you more control, too.

How to Make Strawberry Roses

  1. Prepare the strawberries: Wash and dry the berries.
  2. Cut around the base: Depending on the size of the strawberry, make 4 or 5 petals all the way around from just above the halfway mark of the strawberry and towards the base (but not all the way). Make sure to follow to curve of the strawberry as much as possible. Use your knife to curl back the petals carefully.
  3. Second row: Cut the second row of petals from the top section of the strawberry and between the previous ones you just made.
  4. V-shape: To make the very top of the rose, carve a v-shape at the pointy end.

Tips for Success

  • Choose large, pointy strawberries with a bright red color.
  • Wash and dry them.
  • Use a small sharp knife.
  • Start carving at the bottom of the strawberry.
  • Don’t cut all the way to the base.
  • Curl the petals after carving them.
  • Serve within a few hours so they are still fresh.

Fun Ways to Use Strawberry Roses

  • Enjoy as a simple, but beautiful snack (try them with melted chocolate and whipped cream).
  • Fruit platters: Decorate your boards and platters with the roses.
  • Skewers: Stick them on a skewer and garnish with bows for special occasions.

  • Cupcakes and cakes: Top onto sweet treats for a showstopping detail.
  • Drinks and cocktails: Add roses to the bottom of your champagne glasses or use them to garnish cocktails.
  • Ice cubes: Place the roses in ice cube tray compartments. Top with water or juice.
  • Caramelize: Dip the strawberry roses in a syrup to caramelise and serve for dessert.
