Prep Time: 35 min.

Give your appetizers a heart-themed makeover with these adorable tomato, mozzarella and basil crostini.

Use the inside part of the tomato, which is not used for hearts, to make a delicious spread with garlic, sea salt and pepper.

Serve them at a Valentine’s Day party or spoil your loved ones on anniversaries, birthdays, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.

Ingredients

Instructions

1. Slice the bread.

2. Panfry the slices in 2-3 tbsp of butter on medium-high heat until light brown on both sides.

3. Allow to cool.

4. Trim the tomatoes along the outside skin.

5. Use the medium and small heart-shaped cutter to make your tomato hearts. It's easier to pierce the tomato skin if you stick the cutter into the soft side of the tomato and press the cutter against the skin using your thumb and index fingers. If you get any odd pieces of tomato skin, you can trim them with a knife.

6. Grate the remainder of the tomatoes and add one clove of minced garlic, a dash of sea salt and pepper.

7. Slice the mozzarella.

8. Make small and medium-sized hearts with the cutters.

9. Spread the grated tomato mixture onto the crostini. Top with the medium mozzarella and tomato hearts, the smaller hearts and some basil leaves.

10. Serve.
