These adorable Avocado Bites with hummus and baked tortilla are surprisingly easy to make and so impressive.

Serve them as hors d’oeuvres at your next dinner party, or top them onto your salads for a bit of crunch.

Feel free to replace hummus with pesto, cottage cheese, cream cheese, or even whipped feta. 

Recipe Tip

A squeeze of lemon or lime juice on top of the avocado is delicious and will keep it from browning, too!

Avocado Bites

Ingredients 

  • 2 avocados
  • 2 tortillas
  • 2 tablespoons hummus
  • chili flakes, to taste
  • sea salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 11 fresh basil leaves

Instructions 

  • Cut out the 11 tortilla flowers with the flower cutter.
  • Brush the tortilla flowers with olive oil and broil on a baking sheet in a hot oven for 2-3 minutes.
  • Allow to cool.
  • Halve and peel the avocado.
  • Lay the flat side down and slice it across. Ideally, you want slices that are 2 mm (around 1/16th inch).
  • Flatten the avocado with your palm and fan all the slices in the same direction.
  • Use the flower cutter to cut out the avocado flowers.
  • Repeat with the second avocado.
  • Top the baked tortilla flowers with hummus and the fanned avocado flowers.
  • Sprinkle with sea salt, pepper, and chili flakes.
