These homemade Christmas Rolls are the easiest way to add a little festive cheer to your holiday table.

You'll need a Christmas coffee stencil (I used a snowflake). Place it on your egg-washed rolls before baking, and sprinkle with sumac.

Enjoy this delicious roll recipe for breakfast, lunch (they are great for sandwiches), or dinner.

Swap the sumac for turmeric, poppy seeds, chia seeds, flour, butterfly pea powder, or coconut sugar (just to name a few).

Ingredients

Instructions

Makes 24.

1. Heat the milk in a small pot or the microwave until lukewarm.

2. Transfer to a big bowl.

3. Crumble the yeast into the milk.

4. Stir until combined.

5. Add room-temperature butter, salt, honey, one egg, and half of the flour.

6. Mix until all the ingredients are incorporated.

7. Top with the remaining flour and knead until the dough is uniform and soft (you can use a stand mixer). If the dough is too wet, add a spoon of flour at a time until the dough is no longer sticky.

8. Cover the bowl with cling film or a clean kitchen towel.

9. Allow to rise for 30 minutes.

10. Shape the rolls (mine were 50 grams each) and allow them to rise for 30 minutes on a baking sheet.

11. Whisk an egg in a small bowl.

12. Brush the rolls with the egg wash.

13. Spoon the sumac into a mini sieve.

14. Place the stencil on top of the rolls.

15. Tap the sieve to sprinkle over the sumac.

16. Bake in a 200°C / 392°F oven for 9-12 minutes until golden brown.

17. Serve.
