Prep Time: 50 min.
Kids will go nuts over this creepy Fruit & Veggies Halloween Platter, and what better way to sneak in a healthy snack.
This platter consists of a Mellow Melon Pumpkin, creepy Cyclop Spiders, spooky Cucumber Ghouls, and Grape Googly eyes.
You can make a mixed platter with all of them or even individual platters, as you prefer!
Most of these items take minutes to prepare. Only the Cyclops Spiders are a bit more time-consuming, given some chocolate piping is involved. You can make them first, so the chocolate will have time to harden while you prepare the rest.
Ingredients
- cantaloupe
- cucumber
- green grapes
- dark chocolate
- white chocolate
- metal straw
- candy eyes
- parchment paper
- piping utensil / bag
- small petal-shaped cookie cutter
Instructions
Instructions for the Mellow Melon Pumpkin:
1. Halve the cantaloupe.
2. Peel the outer layer off the melon using a knife or vegetable peeler.
3. Remove the seeds with a spoon.
4. Slice the melon into five pieces and arrange them on a platter.
5. Use some cucumber peel for the stem.
6. Top with candy eyes.
Instructions for the Cucumber Ghouls:
1. Cut the cucumber slices at an angle.
2. Make the eyes using a metal straw.
3. Cut out the mouth with the small petal-shaped cutter.
4. Trim or zig-zag the bottom of the ghosts by hand (I used a dress cookie cutter I have).
Instructions for the Cyclop Spiders:
1. Melt the dark chocolate. You can melt it in a bain marie, microwave or directly in a pot on low heat, just be sure to stir constantly.
2. Place the chocolate in a piping utensil / bag.
3. Add a blob of chocolate on one side of a grape and attach it to another grape. I placed them on an ice cube to make the chocolate set faster.
4. Pipe the eight legs onto parchment paper and top with the double grapes.
5. Use a bit of dark chocolate to make the candy eye stick to the spider.
6. Allow to set and remove carefully from the parchment paper.
Instructions for the Grape Googly Eyes:
1. Melt the white chocolate. You can melt it in a bain marie, microwave or directly in a pot on low heat, just be sure to stir constantly.
2. Halve the grapes and dip the tips of each half into the white chocolate.
3. Top with candy eyes.
Arrange all the components on a platter and serve.
