Prep Time: 30 min.
Inspired by the beautiful June beetle, these kiwis with dark chocolate are so tasty, but every bit as fun too. There is no need to remove the peel, as it’s edible (and super healthy), but the beetles will also work with the skin removed if you prefer.
Ingredients
- kiwis
- dark chocolate
- candy eyes
- parchment paper
- piping utensil / bag
Instructions
1. Halve the kiwi.
2. Make a cut slightly over halfway across the narrow part of the kiwi peel, not cutting all the way through.
3. Trim the peel off the smallest section using a small knife or peeler.
4. Dry the kiwi with a kitchen towel. This ensures the dark chocolate will set properly.
5. Melt the dark chocolate.
6. Place the slightly cooled melted chocolate in a piping bag/utensil.
7. Pipe on the chocolate. First, you pipe along the line between the skin and the fruit. Then pipe a line down the middle of the beetle’s body.
8. Finally, pipe six legs on some parchment paper, and place the kiwi beetle on top.
9. Leave to set.
10. Add candy eyes (you can use a bit of dark chocolate to make them stick better).

The candy eyes and piping utensil I use are linked in my Shop.
