These Ham and Cheese Roll Ups are one of my favorite ways to make lunches feel a little special. They’re also a go-to appetizer for everything from graduation parties to holiday celebrations!

Tortillas, sliced ham, and red cheddar are wrapped into elegant rose shapes for an impressive appearance that’s perfect for easy serving.
Ham and cheddar are a classic combination and one of my favorites to use in recipes like my ham and cheese pinwheels and Croque Monsieur. However, these roll-ups with ham and cheese are the recipe I turn to most often.
Ready in minutes with no cooking required, they’re perfect for a last-minute gathering or tucked into lunchboxes. They even taste great the next day and can be customized with different fillings. No matter the occasion, these rollups are always a favorite with kids and adults alike!

Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!
- Tortilla: Plain white flour tortillas. I use the 20 cm (8 inches) size.
- Ham: I prefer to larger pieces of deli ham, but use what you prefer.
- Cheddar: Red cheddar slices to make the rose details. Cut any leftover cheese into strips and top onto the ham before rolling.
- Butter: I use salted butter.
- Fresh basil: To garnish and add freshness.
How to Make Ham & Cheese Roll Ups
- Prepare the tortilla: Butter a tortilla, top with another. Butter this tortilla also, then add ham.

- Cut out the cheddar ovals and place three pieces on the tortilla strips.
- Roll and fasten with a toothpick. Top with basil to garnish.
Possible Variations
- Tortilla: Swap for corn, whole-wheat, or gluten-free wraps.
- Butter: Mayonnaise, mustard, hummus, pesto, olive tapenade, or hot honey.
- Ham: Salami, chorizo, chicken, turkey, bacon, pepperoni, roast beef, prosciutto, or cooked ground beef.
- Cheddar: White cheddar cheese, Swiss cheese, shredded mozzarella, cream cheese, Gruyére, or goat cheese.
- Add-ins: Cucumber strips, pickle slices, arugula, shallots, capers, roasted peppers, or red pickled onions.
