Chocolate Spider Ingredients

Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!

  • Dark chocolate: I like to use chocolate with 55-70% cocoa solids, but any chocolate that melts well will work.
  • Berries: Use fresh and firm blackberries and blueberries.
  • Mini candy eyes: Adds the finishing touches. You can omit.

Recipe Tip

If the warm melted chocolate is too thick, add a teaspoon or two of neutral coconut oil to thin it.

How to Make Halloween Spiders

  1. Pipe the spider’s body: Melt the dark chocolate. Pipe the chocolate spider legs and body.
  2. Prepare the berries: Wash and dry the berries. Pipe the chocolate onto the tip of the blackberries and add a blueberry.
  3. Assemble the spiders: Top the chocolate body with a blackberry and a blueberry.
  4. Finishing touches: Use melted chocolate to glue on the candy eyes and allow to set.

Possible Variations

  • Blackberries: Use raspberries, strawberries, cherries, kiwi berries, or physalis.
  • Blueberries: Swap for chocolate-covered peanuts, jelly drops, or other round candy.
  • Dark chocolate: Milk chocolate or white chocolate will also work. You can also use pretzel sticks to make the legs.
  • Add-ons: Top the chocolate legs with finely chopped pistachios or sprinkles. You can also add more candy eyes for a fun effect.

Recipe Tip

Top the spiders onto a creamy peanut butter cup or your favorite cookies.

How to Store Leftovers

Store leftovers spaced apart in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy them within 1-2 days.

FAQs

I don’t have a piping tool. What else can I use?

A freezer bag with the end cut is equally effective.

Where can I get candy eyes?

Large supermarkets will have them, or you can buy them online. There are mini, regular-sized, and large candy eyes (I used mini for these).

Can I make the spiders ahead of time?

Absolutely! Make them a few hours in advance, and store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve them. Be sure to space them apart and use a flat platter so they don’t break.
