To make these, all you need is store-bought pizza dough (you can also use rolled puff pastry) and a few of your favorite sausages. Shape the dough into spiders, top with edible eyes, and serve them with any dip you like.

These snacks are quick to make and a great alternative to mummy sausage rolls. Surprise your kids and stick them in their lunchbox, or serve them as a tasty after-school snack.

Recipe Tip

Add more candy eyes for an even spookier roll (most spiders have eight eyes), or use an edible marker instead.

Ingredients

  • 3 sausages, long
  • 280 grams pizza dough, 1 roll
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 16 candy eyes

Instructions

  • Turn on the oven to 200°C / 392°F.
  • Slice each sausage into 2 – 3cm / 1.5-inch pieces.
  • Roll out the pizza dough and trim it into rectangles long enough to cover the sausage. The rectangle needs to be 2-3 cm (1 inch) wider than the sausages (to both sides).
  • Roll the sausage into the dough.
  • Press the dough together at both ends of the sausage.
  • Use a knife to trim four legs on each side.
  • Make sure to roll each leg tightly.
  • Place the spider sausage rolls on a tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Shape the legs so they bend slightly (or keep them straight).
  • Beat the egg and use a pastry brush to top of the sausage rolls.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • Top with candy eyes (you can use water to make them stick).
  • Serve.
