Feta Cheese Salad Ingredients

Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!

  • Watermelon: Choose a watermelon with a large yellow or orange field spot that feels heavy for its size and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Galia melon: Look for a firm, symmetrical melon that is heavy for its size.
  • Nectarine: They need to be firm enough to be shaped.
  • Feta: Use a block of feta for the best taste. Keep it cold until assembly so it doesn’t crumble as easily.
  • Ingredients for the dressing: Apple cider vinegar for tang, honey for sweetness, extra virgin olive oil for flavor (not pictured), sea salt, and pepper.

How to Make Feta Cheese Salad

  1. Cut out the melon, cheese, and nectarine into squares and divide each square diagonally into four triangles.
  2. Arrange the fruit and cheese squares on a platter, and place nectarine slices around the edge.
  3. Garnish with fresh mint. Season well.
  4. Mix together the dressing and spoon the dressing onto the platter.

Tips for Success

  • Use cold feta so it won’t crumble as easily.
  • Taste the dressing to ensure it’s balanced to your liking. If you find it too tangy, add more honey. If it’s too sweet, add more apple cider vinegar.
  • Use a round or square platter.

Possible Variations

  • Watermelon or Galia: Use a combination of other melons, cucumber, pineapple, or dragonfruit.
  • Nectarine: Peaches, apples, pears, or strawberries.
  • Feta: Try halloumi.
  • Dressing: Swap for olive oil, red wine vinegar, balsamic glaze, lemon juice, or hot honey. Or try pesto, chimichurri, or salsa verde.
  • Add-ins: Top with chopped herbs such as fresh oregano, dill, basil, cilantro, or mint. Chopped nuts and cherry tomatoes would be a delicious addition, too.
  • Cookie cutter: If you don’t have a square cutter, shape the feta into symmetrical squares, then cut the remaining ingredients the same size, using the feta squares as your guide.

FAQs

Can I make the salad in advance?

Sure, You can make the salad a few hours in advance. Store it in the fridge, cover with plastic wrap, and keep the dressing separate until you are ready to serve.

I don’t have time to cut out the shapes. What can I do instead?

Dice the melon and nectarines in similar-sized pieces, and top the fruit with crumbled feta. Drizzle the dressing on top.

How is this different from a traditional Greek salad?

Greek salad features veggies such as tomatoes, cucumbers, Kalamata olives, red onion, green bell pepper, and feta. It’s tossed with a simple vinaigrette. This version is more similar to a watermelon-and-feta salad given it’s fruit-based.
