These adorable Cheddar Crackers shaped into stars are as delicious as they are impressive. Similar to Goldfish crackers, they are crunchy and cheesy, and made with just three ingredients!

Serve them as a fun snack or appetizer any time of the year. They are also perfect for New Year’s, the 4th of July, anniversaries, graduations, and other special occasions.

Several small, golden-brown, star-shaped crackers are arranged on a sheet of parchment paper.

You can even add them to a cheeseboard or top them onto salads for a bit of crunch!

Cheddar Crackers Ingredients

Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!

  • Cheddar cheese: I use Red Leicester, but any cheddar will work.
  • Flour: Plain white flour is fine. There’s no need to sieve it, as it will all get mixed in the processor.
  • Butter: Opt for cold butter and cut it into smaller pieces to help out the processor.

How to Make Cheddar Crackers

  1. Prepare the dough. Mix the ingredients in a mini food processor and roll out the dough.
  2. Cut out the stars. Arrange them on a lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake and serve.

Recipe Tip

Sprinkle with edible gold dust to make them even more festive for New Year’s and other special occasions.

Tips for Success

  • If your dough is crumbly, add a tablespoon of water at a time and mix again until it comes together.
  • A mini food processor will give the smoothest dough.
  • If the dough is sticky, pop it in the fridge and sprinkle flour on the counter when you roll it out.
  • Dip your cookie cutters in flour to make them non-stick.

Possible Variations

  • Cheddar cheese: Use any cheddar you like, varying from mild to aged. Alternatively, swap for other hard cheeses such as Gouda, Gruyere, or Parmesan.
  • Flour: You can experiment with other flours to make them gluten-free, or try wholemeal flour, almond meal, or Tipo. Please note this may change the baking time.
  • Butter: Swap for garlic butter or other flavored butters.
  • Add-ins: Add fresh chili, chopped fresh or dried herbs, such as garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, rosemary, or chili.

FAQs

My dough is crumbly. What do I do?

Using a more mature cheese may require adding a tablespoon of water or milk at a time until the dough comes together.

How do I store leftovers?

Keep in a glass container at room temperature.

I don’t have a star cookie cutter. Can I still make them?

Yes, absolutely! Use a knife to slice the dough into squares instead.

What do I do if I don’t have a mini food processor?

I would finely grate the cheddar cheese in this case, and knead by hand.

So easy and fun to make! We found we needed to add a touch of water to get the dough to come together, but other than that, they’re great. Delicious.
