All you need is Granny Smith apples (we love them for their perfect balance of sweet and sour), white and dark chocolate, candy eyes, a few red chocolate buttons, and sprinkles for fangs.

Recipe Tip

Get the whole family involved and let the kids help make them!

These chocolate-covered apples make the perfect Halloween party recipe, and they’re a great alternative to caramel apples. They also make a tasty afternoon snack when the kids come home from school.

Halloween Apple Treats Ingredients

  • Chocolate: You’ll need dark and white chocolate. Make sure to melt it low and slow, so it won’t burn.
  • Granny Smith: Use firm, unbruised, and symmetrical apples.
  • Candy eyes: Plain or red-veined or a combination of both.
  • Chocolate buttons: For the spider’s black widow spot.
  • Sprinkles: For the fangs.

How to Make Halloween Apple Treats

  1. Halve the apples and remove the core. Insert the lolly sticks.
  2. Add the spider web details using melted white chocolate and a toothpick. Allow to set.
  3. Top the spider web with the dark chocolate spider.
  4. Add the candy eyes, fangs, and a red chocolate button.

Possible Variations

  • Chocolate: Use any color chocolate you prefer.
  • Green apples: Yellow or red apples are fine, too.
  • Candy eyes: Swap for smaller eyes, add more, or omit.
  • Lolly sticks: Choose any colored sticks or omit.
  • Presentation: Keep it simple and top the apples with only the white chocolate spider web or drizzle white chocolate randomly over the apples to mimic a web, and then add the dark chocolate spider.

How to Store Leftovers

Keep leftovers covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container and store them in the fridge. Enjoy them within 1 day.

FAQs

Can I prepare the Halloween treats in advance?

Yes! A few hours ahead is fine. Keep them covered in the refrigerator until serving.

How do I prevent the apples from browning?

Brush the cut end with lemon juice.

What other spooky snacks can I serve the apples with?

Apple monster mouths are a fun pairing. To make them, you’ll need two apple slices. Fill the middle of the slices with creamy peanut butter (to act as a glue), top with mini marshmallows, sunflower seeds, or almond slices for the teeth. Add a strawberry slice to make the tongue. Use a dab of peanut butter to stick on candy eyes or omit. You can spot my version on my Halloween Fruit Snacks platter.
