Christmas Veggie Tray Ingredients

Please be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the complete details!

  • Cucumber: English or Persian cucumbers for their thinner skin.
  • Sour cream: Or creme fraiche. I prefer full fat, but use what you like.
  • Dill: Adds a fresh, herby flavor. Dried dill is an option, too.
  • Garlic: Mince or grate fresh garlic and adjust to your taste.
  • Onion powder: Adds a sweet umami.
  • Seasoning: Sea salt and black pepper to balance all the flavors.
  • Basil: To garnish.

How to Make a Christmas Veggie Tray

A hand holds a small bowl filled with a creamy white dip over an empty white plate on a gray surface.

Recipe Tip

The cucumber cutouts make a great snack for your kidsโ€™ lunchbox.

Possible Variations

  • Add more veggies: Try broccoli, carrots, cherry tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower florets, celery, radish, olives, etc.
  • Add more dips: Fill a few dipping bowls with hummus, guacamole, tzatziki, whipped feta, or Ranch.
  • Presentation: Shape the cucumber slices into a Christmas wreath with the dip in the middle. Then make a bow from red pepper,ย similar to the one on my sausage roll wreath.

How to Store Leftovers

Keep the cucumbers and dip stored in the refrigerator in separate airtight containers. Enjoy within 2 days.

FAQs

What are other festive messages to spell out?

Try โ€˜Santa Claus,โ€™ โ€˜Ho Ho Ho,โ€™ โ€˜Jingle Bellsโ€™, or โ€˜Snow be itโ€™ (cause who doesnโ€™t love a pun) are all great options.

I donโ€™t have cookie cutters. Can I still make this?

Yes! You will need to cut out the letters by hand, so choose something simple like โ€˜Ho Ho Hoโ€™. Alternatively, skip the message and make a Christmas tree veggie tray by arranging the cucumber slices in a tree shape.

Can I prepare the platter ahead of time?

Absolutely! Slice and prepare the cucumbers and the dip a few hours in advance. Store the cucumber in the fridge in an airtight container lined with a paper towel to keep it fresh. Make and store the dip separately. Give it a mix before serving.
