Perfect for a lunchbox, for Valentine’s parties, or a romantic dinner.

A hand holds a slice of bread topped with cheese shaped like a bear and a green grape arranged as a heart.

You can leave the crostini plain like I have done (since the baguette is crisp and buttery), or top the slices with cranberry jam, garlic cream cheese, pesto, sundried tomato, or olive tapenade – whatever your heart desires.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices baguette
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cheddar slices, white
  • 18 black sesame seeds
  • 3 grapes, oblong

Instructions

  • Cut 6 slices of baguette.
  • Heat a pan on medium-high.
  • Add three tablespoons of butter to the pan.
  • Place the bread in the hot pan and brown on both sides until golden (about two minutes per side).
  • Shape the bear’s body with cheddar and the medium round cutter.
  • Cut the cheddar face with the small round cutter and the mouth with the mini round cutter.
  • For the ears, use the petal-shaped cutter (tuck the pointy end under).
  • Cut out the cheddar hands and feet with the metal straw (you can remove them from the straw using a skewer).
  • Arrange the elements for the bear on top of the crostini.
  • Top with the sesame seed eyes and nose.
  • Cut the oblong grapes at a slant and halve each half symmetrically.
  • Match the opposite halves to make two hearts and place one on each bear.
  • Serve.
