Inspired by the beautiful June beetle, these Beetlejuice Kiwis with dark chocolate are so tasty and every bit as fun.

They are the perfect addition to your Halloween fruit platters, served with my blueberry ghosts, strawberry monsters, and a few plastic spiders!

Ingredients needed for Beetlejuice Kiwis featuring a bowl of candy eyeballs, several pieces of dark chocolate in a glass dish, and four whole kiwis.

There is no need to remove the peel, as it’s edible (and super healthy), but the beetles will also work with the skin removed if you prefer.

Recipe Tip

Be sure to dry the fruit with a paper towel before adding the dark chocolate, so it sticks properly.

Ingredients

  • 4 kiwis
  • 75 grams dark chocolate
  • 16 candy eyes

Instructions

  • Halve the kiwi.
  • Make a cut slightly over halfway across the narrow part of the kiwi peel, not cutting all the way through.
  • Trim the peel off the smallest section using a small knife or peeler.
  • Dry the kiwi with a kitchen towel. This ensures the dark chocolate will set properly.
  • Melt the dark chocolate.
  • Place the slightly cooled melted chocolate in a piping utensil or bag.
  • Pipe on the chocolate. First, you pipe along the line between the skin and the fruit. Then pipe a line down the middle of the beetle’s body.
  • Finally, pipe six legs on some parchment paper, and place the kiwi beetle on top.
  • Leave to set.
  • Add candy eyes (use a bit of melted dark chocolate to make them stick).
