You only need a metal straw and a sharp knife to carve these fun skulls, which you can also add to a lunchbox or veggie platter with a delicious dip.

To make the salad, sprinkle the cucumber slices generously with sea salt to draw out the moisture. Wash and pat the slices dry with a paper towel, and then top them with the dressing.

If you are short on time, simply shape 7-10 cucumber slices into skulls and place these on top, keeping the rest plain. Your cucumber salad will still look spooky!

Feel free to add finely sliced red onion or sesame seeds for a bit of added crunch!

Equipment

Ingredients 

  • 1/2 cucumber, English
  • 5 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
  • sea salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste

Instructions 

  • Slice the cucumber finely.
  • Shape the slices into skulls using a metal straw for the eyes.
  • Use a sharp knife to shape a symmetrical indent for the jaw.
  • Cut out teeth with two small v-shaped incisions.
  • Place the cucumber slices on a plate.
  • Top generously with sea salt for 15-20 minutes to extract the moisture.
  • Wash the salt off the skulls and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Mix the rice vinegar, honey, chili flakes, sea salt, and pepper for the dressing.
  • Top the cucumber skulls with the dressing and allow to soak for 30 minutes.
  • Serve.
