This baked tortilla recipe is a fun and easy alternative to pinwheels or tortilla roll-ups. You can customize it however you like, so feel free to use guacamole, salsa, sour cream, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, pesto, ham, crunchy bacon, or green onion – the possibilities are endless.

Serve the tortilla flowers as fancy chips with salsa. Before you bake them, sprinkle them with sea salt (maybe even a bit of chili flakes or paprika), and that’s a wrap!

Baked Tortilla Appetizers

Ingredients 

  • 2 flour tortillas
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 150 gram feta, 5 ounces
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
  • 1 avocado
  • zaatar
  • sea salt
  • basil
  • large flower cookie cutter
  • muffin tin

Instructions 

  • Turn your oven to 175°C/ 350° F (grill setting).
  • Use the flower cutter to shape the tortilla.
  • Place the tortilla flowers in the muffin tin and press down the middle.
  • Brush a thin layer of olive oil on top of the tortilla flowers.
  • Bake for 2-3 minutes until the flowers are golden.
  • Remove the muffin tin from the oven, and leave the flowers to come to room temperature and firm up in the form.
  • To make the whipped feta, blend the feta, yogurt, and garlic until creamy. You can also mix this by hand.
  • Add sea salt to taste.
  • Slice an avocado in half.
  • Remove the peel.
  • Cut the avocado half finely lengthwise.
  • Separate and place 4-5 avocado pieces inside the tortilla flowers so they overlap.
  • Top with a spoonful of whipped feta.
  • Sprinkle with za’atar and top with a basil leaf.
  • Serve.
